Examples of Loan Forgiveness

23-year-old teacher with $50,000 of Federal student loans and $45,000 of private student loans.

Set the Federal student loans up for $52,000 of forgiveness.
Refinanced her private loans from interest rates of 8%, 9.625%, and 11.25% to 3.45%, which is projected to save over $18,000.

30-year-old who works at a non-profit with $60,000 in loans that just married a high-income earner.

Recommended that they file taxes separately vs. jointly. If they had filed jointly their loan payment would have gone from $158.30 to around $1,000 a month.
